Hometour: a renovated hayloft house with pastel colored walls

May we introduce you to Marjolein? She is Category manager 'Living' at HEMA, owner of the interior consultancy firm MINTS and lives in a unique hayloft house. Take a look inside and find out everything about this beautiful home, the renovation and its Scandinavian style.

From front to back

From front to back

A few years ago Marjolein and her husband Marco built this Kapberg together. It has the style of a - very beautiful - "hay barn". Marjolein says: “Our home has a front and back house. The front house is completely covered with black cedar boards and the back house is made of stone." It became their own project in which Marjolein came up with all designs both inside and outside. “I could now think about the layout, lighting plan, fitted wardrobes, finishes, colors and of course the design and adjustment! Really great to do!”

Black and pastels

Black and pastels

You see black everywhere in the house. Black door and window frames and - you’ve already guessed it - black steel doors. They create an elegant contrast to the pastel coloured walls and tones in the interior. Marjolein describes her interior taste as Scandinavian with an industrial touch. “I love combining designer pieces with second-hand goods and my personal items”. Every item is beautifully highlighted in the built-in storage. “I’m also really happy with our custom-made storage in the lounge and dressing room. I love styling, restyling and creating cozy corners”, says Marjolein. Her favourite spot in the house? The kitchen wins! This cosy spot has plenty of light and forms the heart of the home. “I deliberately chose a white kitchen with a concrete counter and handmade mint-green tiles”, she continues. “We covered the whole wall to make a statement!”

Personal touch

Personal touch

One of the personal elements that she added to her interior is an IXXI of her most precious holiday memories. “Instead of keeping all the photos on our phones and cameras, I took the best, most precious and funniest shots and used them in this IXXI.” Marjolein is not the only one who loves it: her kids are also enthusiastic. “They tell everyone who visits us about our holiday and the special moments we shared together! We all get to relive them together, which is wonderful. It’s turned out really well!”
