PRESS RELEASE: New “masterpieces” through international Van Gogh Challenge
Amsterdam, September 8, 2022. With the Van Gogh Challenge, IXXI and the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam challenged designers worldwide to give Van Gogh’s classics a modern make-over. The three most outstanding remakes will soon be displayed within the walls of the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam.
From Sunflowers in 3D or a Selfie Portrait: with the Van Gogh Challenge, the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam and IXXI invited designers around the globe to create their own 21st-century versions of Vincent van Gogh’s world-famous works. Over a hundred creators submitted their remakes for a chance to become part of IXXI’s exclusive “Van Gogh 21st Century” Collection, which will be exhibited online starting September 8th.
With the Van Gogh Challenge, the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam and IXXI put both contemporary designers and Van Gogh in the spotlight. Marijn Veraart, Head of Global Partnerships & Licensing at the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam: “It’s amazing that Vincent’s life and work still inspire artists from all over the world. This collaboration serves as a stepping stone for today’s talent.”
Until Sunday, September 11th, the public can vote on their favorite work from the collection, so they can see it up for display within the walls of the Van Gogh Museum Amsterdam at the end of September.
